Public and Land Grant Universities Representatives from USA Visit Addis Ababa University
US Public and Land Grant Universities and other US based institutions delegates visited Addis Ababa University main campus on Sunday, 27th of October 2019.
The delegation members were welcomed by President of Addis Ababa University (AAU) Prof Tassew Woldehana and AAU’s senior management.
Prof. Tasew briefed them about AAU and highlight on-going AAU-US universities collaborative academic and research activities. He also outlined priority areas of AAU for future collaboration with US universities.
The delegation members on their part expressed their universities interest to collaborate with AAU on areas of mutual interest. Areas identified included students and staff exchange, joint research, and academic collaborations.
They visited the Ethno-museum at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies were thrilled by the diversity, antiquity and uniqueness of the collections which they reflected as visiting Ethiopia in one place.
Addis Ababa University was established in 1950 as the University College of Addis Ababa (UCAA). It is the oldest and the largest higher learning institutions in Ethiopia. Began with enrollment capacity of 33 students in 1950, AAU now has 48,673 students and about 6043 staff. In its 10 colleges, 10 institutes and 2 teaching hospitals distributed in fourteen different, campuses AAU runs 70 undergraduate programs, 221 master’s programs, and 72 PhD programs. AAU has been rated by TIMES Higher Education Ranking as the 10th best university in Africa.
